Pomsky Resource Center
Welcome to the Pomsky-pedia section of our site. This will serve as a reference center for all the information we provide to our readers.
Below are quick jump links to the most commonly asked questions people tend to have about the Pomsky designer dog breed.
What is a Pomsky?
A true Pomsky is a mixed “designer” dog breed that pairs the smaller Pomeranian with the larger Siberian husky.
Generally, when you cross-breed dogs you want to make sure that the female is the larger of the two breeds.
In the case of the Pomsky, a female Pomeranian would most likely die from a pregnancy assuming she did not receive a c-section. And considerable harm, including death through suffocation, can occur to the puppies inside the mother’s womb.
Please note that “true Pomskies” are required to have pure bred Pomeranian and Siberian husky parents. However, the odds of you getting a “true Pomsky” are not as good as you might think do to the fact that there are a lot of so-called breeders of Pomskies that are simply engaging in outright scams.
How big does a Pomsky get when it is fully grown?
Many people who first learn about the Pomsky have the mistaken impression that the breed is a “teacup” size or simply a miniature Siberian husky. This is inaccurate.
Pomskies actually get much larger than many think and can weigh up to 30 pounds or more. These are not soft, cuddly puppies you can tote around in your purse a la Paris Hilton.
Please see the following link for more detailed information about the factors that determine how big a Pomsky will get when it is full grown.
What kind of personality will my Pomsky have?
The hard cold truth is nobody can be certain due to the fact that this is a “designer breed” that does not have a breed standard. You can learn more the personality and temperaments of the Pomsky’s maternal and paternal bloodlines and get a rough approximation of what one might be able to expect by viewing a lengthy and more detailed article HERE!
What do Pomsky puppies look like?
There is no set look for the Pomsky. If you are looking for the miniature Siberian husky look then you have unrealistic expectations.
Though a Pomsky will have some resemblance of the husky bloodline, nobody can predict with any reasonable certainty how any pups in a litter will look at birth or when they reach adult maturity. Pomsky Wiki goes into greater detail about the physical appearances of the Pomeranian and Sibes HERE! You can use these as a barometer for any Pomsky puppies, but you will need to have a pretty good idea of what the mother and father look like.
Beware of any breeders providing you assurances about specific looks or appearances your Pomsky puppy will have at birth or as an adult. We have a checklist you can use to discern whether or not you are working with a reputable breeder and are currently in the process of putting together a list of breeder reviews.
